Lyrics for the Day – Indiana Wants Me

We need a playlist for songs with states in the title. Here’s a fave.

Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
I wish I had you
To talk to

If a man ever needed dying he did
No one had a right to say what he said about you
And it’s so cold and lonely here without you
Out there the law is coming
I’ve been so tired of running

Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
I wish I had you
To talk to

It hurts to see the man that I’ve become
And to know I’ll never see the morning sunshine on the land
I’ll never see your smiling face or touch your hand
If just once more I could see
You, our home and our little baby

Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
I wish I had you
To talk to

I hope this letter finds its way to you
Forgive me love for the shame I’ve put you through
And all the tears
Hang on love to the memories of those happy years
Red lights are flashing around me
Yeah Lord it looks like they found me

Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
I wish I had you to talk to

Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
(This is the police, you are surrounded, give yourself up)
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
(This is the police, you are surrounded, give yourself up)
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can’t go back there
(This is the police, you are surrounded, give yourself up)

Lyrics on the bizarre side – Gardening At Night

More great R.E.M. stuff

th.jpg

I see your money on the floor
I felt the pocket change through all
The feelings that broke through that door just didn’t seem to be too real

The yard is nothing but a fence the sun just hurts my eyes somewhere
It must be time for penitence gardening at night it’s never worked

Gardening at night
Gardening at night
Gardening at night

The neighbors go to bed at ten
Call the prayer line for a change
The charge is changing every month
They said it couldn’t be arranged

We echoed up the garbage sound but they were busy in the rows
We fell up not to see the sun gardening at night just didn’t grow

I see your money on the floor
I felt the pocket change though all
The feelings that broke through that door just didn’t seem to be too real

Gardening at night
Gardening at night
Gardening at night

Your sister said that you’re too young
She should know she’s been there twice
The call was two and fifty-one
They said it couldn’t be arranged

We echoed up the garbage sound but they were busy in the rows
We fell up not to see the sun gardening at night just didn’t grow

The yard is nothing but a fence the sun just hurts my eyes somewhere
It must be time for penitence gardening at night it’s never worked

Gardening at night
Gardening at night
Gardening at night

Lyrics for All Time – Romeo and Juliet

An all-time fave song and album

th (2).jpg

A lovestruck Romeo
Sings a streetsuss serenade
Laying everybody low
With a love song that he made
Finds a streetlight
Steps out of the shade
Says something like
You and me babe
How ’bout it?

Juliet says, Hey it’s Romeo
You nearly gimme a heart attack
He’s underneath the window
She’s singing, Hey, la, my boyfriend’s back
You shouldn’t come around here
Singing up at people like that
Anyway
What you gonna do about it?

Juliet
The dice was loaded from the start
And I bet
Then you exploded in my heart
And I forget
I forget
The movie song
When you gonna realize
It was just that the time was wrong
Juliet?

Come up on different streets
They both were streets of shame
Both dirty
Both mean
Yes, and the dream was just the same
And I dreamed your dream for you
And now your dream is real
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals?

When you can fall for chains of silver
You can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers
And the promises they hold
You promised me everything
You promised me thick and thin, yeah
Now you just say, Oh Romeo, yeah
You know, I used to have a scene with him

Juliet
When we made love you used to cry
You said, I love you like the stars above
I’ll love you ’til I die
There’s a place for us
You know the movie song
When you gonna realize
It was just that the time was wrong
Juliet?

I can’t do the talks
Like they talk on the TV
And I can’t do a love song
Like the way it’s meant to be
I can’t do everything
But I’ll do anything for you
I can’t do anything except be in love with you

And all I do is miss you
And the way we used to be
All I do is keep the beat
To Bad Company
And all I do is kiss you
Through the bars of a rhyme
Julie, I’d do the stars with you
Any time

Juliet
When we made love you used to cry
You said, I love you like the stars above
I’ll love you ’til I die
There’s a place for us
You know the movie song
When you gonna realize
It was just that the time was wrong
Juliet?

And a lovestruck Romeo
Sings a streetsuss a serenade
Laying everybody low
With a love song that he made
Find a convenient streetlight
Steps out of the shade
And says something like
You and me babe
How about it?
How about it?

Lyrics – The Rain, The Park, & Other Things

Yes, that’s what I should be doing today…

th (3).jpg

I saw her sitting in the rain
Raindrops falling on her
She didn’t seem to care
She sat there and smiled at me
Then I knew
I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew
She could make me happy
Happy, happy
She could make me very happy
Flowers in her hair
In her hair
Flowers everywhere
Everywhere
I love the flower girl
I love the flower girl
Oh, I don’t know just why
She simply caught my eye
I love the flower girl
I love the flower girl
She seemed so sweet and kind
She crept into my mind
To my mind, to my mind
I knew I had to say hello
Hello, hello
She smiled up at me
Then she took my hand
And we walked through the park alone
And I knew
I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew
She had made me happy
Happy, happy
She had made me very happy
Flowers in her hair
In her hair
Flowers everywhere
Everywhere
I love the flower girl
I love the flower girl
Oh, I don’t know just why
She simply caught my eye
I love the flower girl
I love the flower girl
She seemed so sweet and kind
She crept into my mind
To my mind, to my mind
Suddenly the sun broke through
See the sun
I turned around she was gone
Where did she go?
All I had left was one little flower in my hand
But I knew
I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew
She had made me happy
Happy, happy
She had made me very happy
Flowers in her hair
In her hair
Flowers everywhere
Everywhere
I love the flower girl
I love the flower girl
Was she reality or just a dream to me?
I love the flower girl
I love the flower girl
Her love showed me the way
To find a sunny day
Sunny day
Sunny day, sunny day
I love the flower girl
Love the flower girl
Was she reality or just a dream to me?
I love the flower girl
I love the flower girl

Concerts – Dale Watson

Don’t get out much these days but got to the Bluebird Theater in Denver to see Dale Watson last night. Great show with Dixie Leadfoot opening. Wonderful story about this song.

Dale Watson.jpg

He ain’t even near twenty
But he says he’s seen plenty of hard times
‘Cause he’s been on his bus for five days
And in his hotel for five nights

And his satellite dish is broke
And the new band is treatin’ him mean, yeah, I know
And there’s still another week to go
He misses that karaoke machine

Hey, that’s country, my ass
Who do they think we am?
Force-feed us that shit
Ain’t you real tired of it?
Tell ’em, stick it up high
Where the sun don’t shine
Get pissed, an’ get mad
‘Cause that’s country, my ass

Now, she’s out there too, she’s got her own secrets too
Shh, don’t tell nobody
She can’t sing a lick and in a bucket, she couldn’t carry her tunes
Now wait a minute

She’s pretty as a picture
And she sure got a nice set of wits, yeah
And she misses her producer slash boyfriend who seduced her
Er produced her a hit

Hey, that’s country, my ass
Who do they think we am?
Force-feed us that shit
Ain’t you real tired of it?
Tell ’em stick it up high
Where the sun don’t shine
Get pissed, an’ get mad
Tell ’em that’s country, my ass

Now don’t get me wrong
To each his own I believe
But they’ve took the soul out of what means a whole lot to me
‘Cause I can see hank and lefty

They’re spinning around in their graves
And if they were here now
I think y’all know what they’d say, don’t you?
What they’d say?

That’s country, my ass
Who do they think we am?
Force-feed us that shit
Ain’t you real tired of it?
Tell ’em stick it up high
Where the sun don’t shine
We’re pissed, we’re mad ’cause that’s country, my ass
We’re pissed, we’re mad ’cause that’s country, my ass

Lyrics for the Day – Gypsy In Me

Another for the Greatest Hits 2016

th.jpg

Well, that highway moon is calling
Like some lover from some other land
Before the dust can settle
I’ll kick it up and tear it down again
I’ve got the wanderlust
It’s somewhere else or bust
Yeah, I’m just a
Hello, goodbye, honey
It’s been good and I must be going
Restless
I guess
When I’m in one place for too long
I don’t know why
But I’m like the wind and I just keep blowing free
Must be
The gypsy in me, yeah
Gypsy in me

So I led on the table
Baby, what you get is what you see
Well you can look there in the palm of my hand
You won’t find a line of longevity
No, it ain’t in the cards
I ain’t no queen of hearts
Before it starts
Hello, goodbye, honey
It’s been good and I must be going
Restless, I guess
When I’m in one place for too long
I don’t know why
But I’m like the wind and I just keep blowing free
Must be
The gypsy in me, yeah
Gypsy in me
Gypsy in me

I’ve got the wanderlust
It’s somewhere else or bust
Yeah, I’m just a
Hello, goodbye, honey
It’s been good and I must be going
Restless
I guess
When I’m in one place for too long
I don’t know why
But I’m like the wind and I just keep blowing free
Must be
The gypsy in me, yeah
Gypsy in me, yeah
Gypsy in me
Gypsy in me, yeah

Oh
Gypsy in me, yeah
Oh
Gypsy in me, yeah
Oh
The gypsy in me
Oh
The gypsy in me
Oh, oh

Lyrics for All Time – Emmylou

A classic of Americana and by a Swedish band – First Aid Kit

th.jpg

Oh the bitter winds are coming in
And I’m already missing the summer
Stockholm’s cold but I’ve been told
I was born to endure this kind of weather
When it’s you I find like a ghost in my mind
I am defeated and I gladly wear the crown

I’ll be your Emmylou and I’ll be your June
If you’ll be my Gram and my Johnny too
No, I’m not asking much of you
Just sing little darling
Sing with me

Now so much I know, that things don’t grow
If you don’t bless them with your patience
And I’ve been there before, I held up the door
For every stranger with a promise
But I’m holding back
That’s the strength that I lack
Every morning keeps returning at my window
And it brings me to you
And I won’t just pass through
But I’m not asking for a storm

I’ll be your Emmylou and I’ll be your June
If you’ll be my Gram and my Johnny too
No I’m not asking much of you
Just sing little darling sing with me

And yes I might have lied to you
You wouldn’t benefit from knowing the truth
I was frightened but I held fast
I need you now at long last

I’ll be your Emmylou and I’ll be your June
If you’ll be my Gram and my Johnny too
No I’m not asking much of you
Just sing little darling
Sing with me

I’ll be your Emmylou and I’ll be your June
If you’ll be my Gram and my Johnny too
No I’m not asking much of you
Just sing little darling
Sing with me
Just sing little darling
Sing with me
